JULIUSZ BARDACH - THE LAW HISTORIAN IN THE TRANSFER PERIOD BETWEEN THE EPOCS AND STATES (ROOTS OF HIS GENUS)

The genus of the prominent Polish historian Juliusz Bardach has been re- searched. The little known facts of his biography and his ancestors and provide in this article. Juliusz Bardach (born on November 3, 1914 in Odessa, died on January 26, 2010 in Warsaw) was a doctor of law, professor, Honorary doctor of the univer- sities of Warsaw, Lodz and Wilen, Director of the Institute of the State and Law His- tory.
His family has its origin in the Volyn region (the city of Volodymyr- Volynskyi). Bardach's ancestors moved to Volodymyr-Volynsky from Wilen at the beginning of the XIX century. Juliy M. Bardach, the progenitor of the scientist, was a teacher of the Jewish state schools in Odessa. His son Jakob Bardach was a professor of medicine, microbiologist, one of the founders of the Russian bacteriology. His brother, Motl Bardach, the grandfather of Juliusz Bardach, returned to live in the city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi. According to the family legend he married there the grand-daughter of the female tsaddik Hannah Rahhel Werbemacher, known as the Liudmir Virgin. However, researchers believe that the Liudmir Virgin had no de- scendants.
Marek was the son of Motl Bardach. He was born in Volodymyr-Volynskyi. He graduated from the Kharkiv Dental School. Then he worked in Odessa. His wife was Otilia Haiding. In Odessa, Marek and Otilia Bardach had two sons: Juliusz (1914) and Janusz (1919). In early 20-s the family returned to live in Volodymyr-Volynskyi. Juliusz Bardach studied at the M. Copernicus High School of Volodymyr- Volynskyi. In 1934 he entered the Law and Social Sciences Department of the
Stephan Batoriy University of Wilen.
With the beginning of the Second World War the fate of the Bardach family was tragically inevitable. In 1941 Janusz Bardach was sentenced to imprisonment. Juliusz Bardach was in military service since 1941. Their parents and wives died in 1942.
1948 Julius Bardas defended his dissertation. After completing his military
career in 1950, he returned to the scientific and teaching work at the university. The next 60 years of the fruitful research activities of prof. Bardach were associated with the University of Warsaw and the Institute of the State and Law History.
