Abstract

The article presents the results of a survey of prison and probation staff regarding interaction in preparation for the release of a convicted person. Based on the analyzed data, the scientific publication raises problematic issues caused by the evacuation of convicts to other penitentiary institutions, difficulties in helping to solve the labor and household arrangement of convicts after release, and outlines the ways of their possible solutions.
Penitentiary probation and the preparation for the release of convicts are facing perhaps the biggest challenges since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This direction of activity is most revealed through the interaction of probation with penitentiary institutions, subjects of social patronage, local authorities, etc. Preparation for release is a rather complex process involving many processes and per-sons: exchange of information, assistance in obtaining social services, search, and confirmation of residence after dismissal and employment. The war acted as a kind of lens – magnifying the problematic issues that existed before the full-scale invasion.
The above determined the relevance of the selected topic and defined the fol-lowing tasks of this scientific publication: to identify the main problematic interaction issues between probation and penitentiary institutions in preparing for the release of convicts; - to update the preparation directions for release, which re-quires more attention in the conditions of military aggression; - to form recommendations for solving problems based on the determined data.
The empirical basis for the analysis and provision of recommendations was the results of the survey of the employees of the bodies and institutions for the execution of punishments, which carry out measures of penitentiary probation and preparation for release.
In total, in March-June 2023, the following took part in the survey, which was conducted through a Google form, in the entire controlled territory of Ukraine: 1338 probation staff: 75% women and 25% men; 285 penitentiary institutions staff: 75.1% men and 24.9% women.
