PRISON SYSTEM AND PECULIARITIES OF EXECUTION OF PUNISHMENTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF AUSTRIA

Abstract

 

The article examines the organizational structure of the penal establishments of Austria, the principles of the functioning of various types of the penal establishments and the peculiarities of serving sentences in the form of imprisonment. As a result of the working visit to the Republic of Austria at the invitation of its Ministry of Justice, we examined the experience of the prison system of that country. The results of the research became the basis for this article.

The penitentiary system of Austria is an integral part of its Ministry of Justice. It is supervised directly by the Directorate of Prisons. The Austrian Prison Service is tasked with implementing 3 forms of custody and punishment: pre-trial detention; imprisonment; preventive and rehabilitation measures. The prison system of Austria includes 27 penitentiary institutions: 17 pre-trial institutions and 6 prisons.
